QUICK KNOWLEDGE TIMERANGER

On this page, I’ll briefly introduce Timeranger’s characters, mecha, and weapons. Please note that there may be some mild spoilers.

ORGANIZATION AND COMPANY
TTPB Timeranger Intercity Police Department
No Image
Official name is The Time Protection Bureau. An organization that protects against time crimes and historical revision resulting from time slips. Timeranger is an emergency mode status for any 5 members of TTPB fight time criminals. The organization which Yuuri originally was working for, has a close relationship with the TTPB, jointly developing Time Shadow.
Tomorrow Research Asami Group City Guardians
No Image
The company Tatsuya formed with 4 people from the future. The main jobs are karate dojo, driving service, detective work, self defense class, and electronic repairs, and they also do anything else. They mostly get by thanks to the income from Sion's electronics repair service. One of Japan's leading major corporations (like Mitsubishi in our world, I think), whose CEO is Tatsuya's father. Their main business is not clear, but they are large enough to influence the country, and they developed City Guardians with backing from the government. City Guardians is a private organization formed in 20th century for deterioration of public security by Londerz family exist. Tatsuya's farther formed it. This evolves into the intercity police department in the 30th century.
MEMBERS OF TIMERANGER
Asami Tatsuya/Time Red
A young man from the 20th century. The son of Asami Group's CEO, and is set to inherit the company. However, in order to choose his life for himself, he resists that future, rebels against his father, and decides to live only with his own power. He coincidentally met the four members of TTPB who time traveled from the 30th century while jogging. He is always an emotional support for everyone, and leads everyone in a good direction. He was very excited to meet an alien for the first time when he knew Sion was an alien. The actor, Nagai Masaru, had just debuted, and had a fresh and clean image. After appearing in Timeranger, he became a famous actor and is still active. Now there are some suspicious rumors about him, which makes me sad when I think of Tatsuya, but I still support Nagai Masaru.
Yuuri/Time Pink
Working for the intercity police department in the 30th century, she learned about a crime Dolnero would commit in the TTPB and joined as a new member to investigate the case. Her parents and sister were killed before her eyes by one of the Londerz prisoners in the past, so she lived alone and is emotionally independent, and she doesn't know how to rely on anyone. Meeting with the four other members, and especially Tatsuya, her closed heart began to change. When Sion saw the bad picture of a dog she drew, he thought it looked like a Nubo from the fourth galaxy, not a dog. Her actress Katsumura Mika has retired from acting, but she left a strong impression on many people's hearts. We still love you!
Ayase/Time Blue
A young car racer from the 30th century. However, on the health exam to become a pro racer, he found out he has the incurable disease Osiris Syndrome. Knowing that his heart could stop anytime and he doesn't have long to live, he had no choice but to give up his dream. He became self destructive and got in many street fights. From the outside, it looks like he doesn't value his life, but for him, it is confirming that he is alive. Sion didn't know for some time that Ayase has this disease and blamed himself when he found out. Ayase's actor Kido Yuji seems the most interested in a Timeranger reunion, so I hope he makes it a reality! I will do everything I can to support as a fan, so please make it happen!
Domon/Time Yellow
He was a famous fighter of new century grappling, a popular sport in the 30th century, but he was permanently kicked out for being late to a match. He has 6 siblings and the strongest attachment to the 30th century, but by adapting to 20th century life, he became closer to 20th century people than anyone. Sion was his fan from the time he was living in the lab, and got his signature the first time they met. Also, he is the character closest to Sion in the show. The actor who plays him, Izumi Shuhei, recently has appeared in commercials for salted kelp, which really suits him. I hope he continues activity as the Salted Kelp Boss (his character in the commercials)!
Sion/Time Green
The Hubbardian boy who is this site's theme. He crash landed on this planet in an escape capsule from his planet Hubbard, which had been destroyed in a war, and, being the sole survivor, lived a solitary life in the lab as a research subject. While serving as a Timeranger on Earth in the 20th century, by living a normal life he was able to regain the identity which had been taken from him. It should be obvious, the person on the right in the photo is Sion; the one on the left is not. The only human on Earth who has played Sion, Kuranuki Masahiro, is currently active on stage. It hasn't been updated recently, but his blog is interesting! I liked when he made curry often!
Takizawa Naoto/Time Fire
A 20th century man. He was Tatsuya's college classmate, but because he has a different social status, he was jealous of Tatsuya's future while disdainful as what he sees as the foolishness of throwing that away, and the two are always at odds. He joins the City Guardians led by Tatsuya's father, and through hard work and strong desire rises to the top at amazing speed. He becomes Time Fire when he finds the V-Commander, which allows him to control V-REX, but it doesn't mean that he has a friendly helping relationship with the Timerangers. He conflicts with Sion regarding treatment of one of the prisoners, in the end he shows understanding, and is not a bad person. Actually, he is kind to children and animals. Kasahara Shinji, who played Naoto, likes cats, which means he is definitely a good person. The drama he acted in and produced, "Enjiya," is very good!
RELATED TO TTPB/TR
Tac
An extremely advanced robot included with the TTPB's time machine to assist with time travel. He not only is programmed with all information and knowledge, he can also think and has emotions, so is treated like a human. I think he deserves to be called the sixth ranger more than Time Fire. Sion is in charge of taking care of him, and by the end of the series, he and Sion have a close friendship. Although his appearance is cute, his voice sounds like a mid-20s intellectual.
Ryuuya
The leader of the TTPB in the 30th century, he looks identical to Tatsuya. He influences the Timerangers lives from the 30th century by ordering them to stay in the 20th century, and has his own reason for doing so. In the first episode, Lila transformed into him and made Sion and the other cadets get in the time machine as a way to send Dolnero to the 20th century. It seems like he is a descendant of the Asami family, but it's not clear whether he's a direct descendant of Tatsuya. Nagai Masaru is of course the actor. Even though it's his acting debut, his skill as an actor is on display as he depicts two very different characters.
Time Roboter
A robot that manages everyone's schedule, which Sion made to make Tac's job easier. They scream out the schedule when it's time to do something. They can think and have a conversation, so I suppose Roboter is an AI. In one chapter, it's mentioned that Sion and Time Roboter took a bath together, which made me think, "a robot in the bath?!" so we can conclude that they have a strong waterproof finish. This is a spoiler, but because Roboter can't go to the 31st century with Sion, they must still be somewhere now in the 21st century. Now that I mention it, in a picture that Sion's actor Kuranuki Masahiro posted on his blog, he had Time Roboter in his room.
20TH CENTURY'S PEOPLE
Asami Wataru
Tatsuya's father and CEO of the megacorportation Asami Group. He does not approve of Tatsuya's desire to live life as he wants to, and tries to convine him that he has a fixed future. Actually, he feels conflicted about his own fixed destiny, and he is trying to convince himself as much as he is Tatsuya. Wataru's actor Okamoto Fujita is a famous veteran actor, and has also appeared in the Super Sentai series Turboranger in the past. He looked a little like Nagai Masaru when he was young, so it's perfect casting.
Moriyama Honami
A paparazzi working for a magazine. She showed up at a few fights to get photos of the Londers and Timerangers, and caused problems for the Timerangers each time. Since she was comforted by Time Yellow after regretting doing so, she is smitten with him. However, she assumes that Ayase is Time Yellow because she never saw his face, and tries to get closer to him. The picture is Honami-chan overcome with feeling thinking Ayase is Time Yellow. After a series of misunderstandings, she eventually understands that Domon is Yellow. To advance Honami and Domon's relationship, Sion acts as a go-between for the two, and encourages Domon. Yoshimura Tamao, her actress reprises the role in Abaranger and Gokaiger. By continuing to play the role of Honami, she helped to keep the memory of Timerangers who returned to the 31st century alive in the 21st century.
LONDERZ FAMILY
Dolnero
A major criminal of the 30th century who came from another planet. He took advantage of his timing to be compress-freezed, and with the help of his partners Gien and Lila, used the TTPB's time machine to escape to the 20th century with the whole prison. His main goal is to make lots of money, and unlike a typical villain, isn't interested in world domination. With strong feelings for his partners, he skillfully leads his selfish "family" members. He doesn't have a particular connection with Sion. What's strange is that the actor of Dolnero's human form's name comes first in TubiTV's "starring" section for the show. Do they mean that Senbonmatsu Kihei is the real star of the show, and not Nagai Masaru? By the way, Mr. Senbonmatsu passed away recently (07/26/2021).
Lila
It's not clear how they met, but as a member of the Londerz family, she spends most of the money that the other prisoners make. However, her luxuries are rather standard, such as buying jewelry and relaxing at resorts. It seems her relationship with Dolnero is based on money. She has the power to transform into other humans, and this is what tricked Sion and the other cadets into going to the 20th century. Considering that she can be shot by a gun without any injury and has superior fighting power, she is probably not human, even though she looks like one. She called Sion a kid with blue hair, but already at that time, Sion had stopped dying his hair blue. Lila's actress Kuru Asami now is active as a mental trainer, and her looks haven't changed in 20 years.
Gien
A Londerz family member who originally was human, but unlike the other members, only he has an objective other than making money. Unfreezing Londerz prisoners for his own purposes and secretly acting indepenently of Dolnero, from around the middle of the story it's clear that he is plotting something. His face breaks apart when he gets too excited. In the English subs, he compares Sion and Naoto's heated exchange to a soap opera, which I personally took offense to. It was no soap opera! He has known Dolnero for a long time, and once saved his life. The relationship between Gien and Dolnero and the exploration of Gien's past is one of the high points of the series! The actor portraying Gien's human form, Tenma Nobuhiro, has appeared in many Toei works.
Zenitts
These junk droids created by Gien with 30th century technology can transform from portable metallic screws into humanoid robots when they are scattered on the ground. Occasionally Zenitts' underwear is visible through their tights if you look hard enough, which really shows how much those tights are being put through.
MECHANICAL THINGS
Time Robo Alpha Time Robo Beta Time Shadow
A robot made up of the 5 parts of the vehicle Time Jet which goes over time and space from the 30th century when emergency mode is activated. The rangers pilot from inside the robot. Alpha is suited for ground battle, and uses a weapon called the jikuken, and has a special attack called "press blizzard," which can compress-freeze prisoners who have rebounded. I like the jikuken's effect of slicing time that only appears in the early chapters, but it gets cut partway through the show. Beta, which is specialized for air battle, can make use of a virtual space called "virtual turn," and "virtual shoot" from its weapon Flyer Magnum, which is the transformed Time Flyer. It has enough power to destroy a small island. I don't mean to criticize it, but it's appearance feels a little awkward. I feel like it's a design that children will have a hard time appreciating. The “boing!” sound it makes when it bounces off the virtual net like a trampoline is simply comical. For that reason, as well as due to its not being able to compress-freeze, this robo doesn’t stand out too much. A pilotless robot powered by AI, jointly developed by the TTPB and Intercity Police Force. Whenever Time Shadow appears the world is without fail wrapped in darkness. A special sequence plays of the robot gliding through the dark city. It can combine with Time Robo, and fight with a weapon called "pro divider" as Shadow Alpha or Shadow Beta. It was originally scheduled to be completed in 3015, but someone sent it in an incomplete form to the 20th century. The photo shows it in battle mode, but for stealth missions it also has a fighter aircraft stealth mode that it can transform into. It's powered by Z-3.
Time Shadow Alpha Time Shadow Beta Providus
A fusion of Time Robo Alpha and Time Shadow, that can issue virtual nets from both of its shoulders. It can compress-freeze enemies with its Pro-divider Sword’s Blizzard Slash attack. From a looks standpoint, I think it’s a bit of a downgrade from Alpha on its own. This is a fusion of Beta and Shadow. It's faster, and can compress-freeze, which Beta can't do on its own. It's signature weapon is the pressure cannon, and is much more effective than Beta on its own. A rather plain looking robot who appears at the Provider Base to send the Time Jets whenever emergency mode is activated. For some reason, a push from Providus is necessary for movement through space-time. Was this really the only way...?
Catastrophic Weapon Nova MechaCrisis NeoCrisis
A pilotless killing-robot invented by Gien, powered by Z-3 created by 30th century technology from the high energy Lambda-2000 crystals stolen from the Third Research Institute, an affiliate of the Asami Group, which clearly displayed the superiority of 30th century technology to the members of the institute. This mecha is powered by Z-3 refined from a huge amount of Lambda-2000 stolen by the prisoner Harbal. It’s surface is compress-freeze-proof, and is in fact deviously designed to grow larger if attacked with compress-freezer. The final destructive weapon. Gien's improvement of Mecha Crisis. This one's a piloted type, with Gien himself in the cockpit. It has the terrible ability to blast shells from gunports in its body. Space-time began to warp and the earth itself started hurtling toward destruction when Neo Crisis faced off against V-Rex, who is also powered by high energy Lambda-2000. This face's lack of any distinguishing motif or image is somehow creepy.
V-Rex V-Rex Robo G-Zord
A dinosaur-formed bio robot designed for large scale battles by the TTPB, who only obeys the commands of the holder of the V-Commander, Time Fire. It was lost in the flow of time after a failed time travel experiment. It’s powered by highly concentrated Lambda-2000. In Episode 45, we see that Naoto considers it like a big dog. V-Rex transformed into a humanoid robot. This form has greater power, and commands are issued using the V-Commander. Prisoners can be compress-frozen with the ability "Max Blizzard." At the time, the V-Rex toy was extremely expensive at about 14,000 yen, but with voice recognition and the ability to automatically transform, it surpassed the definition of a toy, and sold well. V-Rex's prototype. It was lost in a failed time travel experiment in 2994, but an unusual disturbance in the time-space pulse led it to appear in the end of year 2000. G-Zord goes on a rampage to destroy the 20th century, and Sion and the others are put in a tough situation. It has a mute energy furnace equipped in its body that can create nearly as much energy as Lambda-2000.
ITEMS AND WEAPONS
Chrono Changer Time Emblem Double Vector
A brace that the Timerangers equip on their left arm. A necessity for transforming, which can be done by shouting "Chrono Changer!", pushing a button, and posing. It's connected to a mysterious space called the "Storage Field," which is where the suits and weapons from the 30th century come from. Truly an amazing piece of hardware. Something like a badge indicating that one is a member of the TTPB. It features a device that encases compress-frozen prisoners in a capsule. Sion later gifts Naoto with one made for Time Fire. A sword made up of the Arrow Vector of crystalized metal and Spark Vector of chronomite alloy. It's one of the five's main weapons, and the color and shape of the tip of each of their Spark Vectors is different. For some reason only Time Blue lacks a special technique.
VolUnits Voltech Bazooka Jikuken
A cannon gun unique to the rangers, each with special characteristics. The image shows Time Green's Vol Unit, Volpulser – not only due their features and shapes differ, they even have five unique names. A large projectile with a rather pitiful role in the series, created by combining all five of the Vol Units. It features what should be a very useful ability, Press Refreezer for compression freezing, but it only actually works once or twice in the whole series. Time Robo Alpha's signature weapon, the main ability of which is called Press Blizzard, which can compress freeze prisoners when they’ve become huge. In the beginning of the series it was their most effective technique. Its movement is synchronized with ranger in the cockpit (usually Tatsuya).
Assault Vector V-Commander DV Defender
A powerful rifle shaped expansion to the Spark Vector. Sion made it to defeat the prisoner Uugo, who was getting in the way of the summer festival that everyone was looking forward to. It's used after that as well, and ends up playing a big role. A brace exclusively for the controller of V-Rex, Time Fire, which also serves as a means of restraint. Equipped with voice recognition, V-Rex only responds to the holder of the V-Commander. Naoto, seeking to advance his status within the City Guardians, doesn't realize what he's getting himself into it by making this his own. Judging from how easily he understands the English voice instructions, it seems like Naoto must be fluent in English. It can change between sword mode and gun mode, and can compress freeze prisoners with the DV refreezer. When Naoto transformed into Time Fire the first time, he was able to compress-freeze the prisoner Hammer before he was able to get huge. Considering that the Timerangers only succeed in compress-freezing with the five of them plus their robots, Naoto's competence really stands out.
VEHICLES
Time Jets
It’s all about the chronomite alloy finish. There are five of them, each operated by one specific ranger. They all have differing characteristics and abilities, even though they aren't featured in the show that much. When all combined, they form the Time Jets Gamma, a fighter aircraft mode. It can attack enemies by creating a huge twister called a Gamma Tornado. Time travel is possible by their chrono particles shifting when smacked by Providus into the Time Gate, the passage through which one can warp through space, and then being recreated when they've reached the desired era. That's how it was explained in one of the books, but that seems to contradict the depiction in the show of their passing through various historical eras, so let's not worry about it too much. They go back to the 30th century, leaving the Timerangers behind after defeating each enemy, only to come back again next time.
Time Flyer
Combat vessels that the Timerangers ride like surfboards when rushing after a case. They emit various beams of light. Time Robo Beta's signature weapon Flyer Magnum is a modified form of the Time Flyer. They're extremely fast, but somehow no one ever falls off.
Igreg
Flying units that the Timerangers ride on when moving from the 30th to 20th centuries. They were sent to the 20th century through the same method as the Time Jets. They broke after crash landing in Chiba Prefecture's Tsutsugaura in Episode 1, and were not returned to for a while after that.
Raimei
I'm not sure if this can be called a vehicle, but I've stuck it in this category, a tank created by a cooperation between the Asami Group affiliate Third Research Institute and the government's Ministry of Security, the best defense the 20th century can muster in response to the decline in public safety brought about by the appearance of Dolnero and his gang. It appeared with much fanfare in an attempt to defeat Nova, raising the viewer’s expectations, but was anticlimactically defeated in an instant.
MINERALS
Lambda-2000 Z-3
A new high purity energy crystal invented by the Third Research Institute. In the 20th century it's only used for Raimei, but in the 30th century it’s used as the energy source for V-Rex. In the second half of the show, it's revealed that it's use has gradually started to eat away at space-time. A high performance fuel created from rarified Lambda-2000. Sion said that "it's a new energy source announced in 3000. It's getting attention for its efficiency. It’s an ultimate energy source," and the rarifying technology has not yet been developed in the 20th century.
