My Top 5 Sentai Characters

I tried ranking my top 5 favorite Super Sentai characters. I'll say in advance that Sion is number 1, so, since there's no surprise regarding the number 1, you can click here if you'd prefer to check backwards from the top.

5.Shelinda
The member of Space Pirates Balban From Gingaman
I'm starting the list with a villain. Honestly, at first I thought her exposed panties and thick makeup were suspicious, but as I got used to her appearance, I started to realize how stylish and high-fashion it was to pull this look off, and she actually started to look really cool and I became a fan. She pridefully maintains aloofness and nobility among the crude and dirty Space Pirates Balban, but we can see her hidden sensitivity in how she remains attached to Ginga Green Hayate and tries to make him notice her and her abilities. It seems like her aggressive looks and attitude are a front to cover for her real personality which she can't completely hide, and it's that gap that makes me like her.
4.Alata
Gosei Red from Goseiger
I'm actually not a huge fan of Goseiger as a series, but I like Alata's character and his position in the team, so find myself watching it. In my ideal team, the leader is trusted due to their understanding and acceptance of all members, and the surrounding members support the leader with their various abilities. The typical red leader in Sentai, however, usually draws everyone together with their commanding charisma, but Alata, who exemplifies the ideal I expressed above, is a rare kind of red in Sentai. He seems like what Sion would be like if he were a leader. Alata's way of influencing those around him is the same as Sion's, and he has an unwavering will despite his gentle nature, which to me is the ideal form of justice.
3.Jiraiya
Ninja Black from Kakuranger
This choice is closely related to the actor portraying the character, as Ninja Black Jiraiya's actor Kane Kosugi is a serious martial artist, performing some intense no-mask action scenes, a rarity in Sentai, that anyone should be able to enjoy! His future success in Kinniku Banzuke, which spawned Sasuke and Ninja Warriors, definitely opened doors for other Super Sentai actors in the 2000s onward. I definitely recommend Kakuranger episodes 28 and 29, in which he plays a big role and that feature the best action scenes in Super Sentai history. His feature episodes are usually sad and involve him having to overcome some strong emotion, and Jiraiya, who has recently arrived in Japan from America and is still learning Japanese (which was the case for Kane as well), does his best to convey his feelings to those around him, and uses his native English suddenly when he can't contain his emotions, which gives him a human likability.
2.Hant
Go-On Green from Go-Onger
In fact, this number 2 ranking is about as fixed as my number 1. Hant is a light-hearted teenager who seems like he doesn't think too much, and at first I wasn't very interested in him, but the more I watched, my opinion changed as I saw his deep sensitivity and strong sense of responsibiity. He may look like he only cares about himself, but in fact he warmly cares about others, has deep thoughts of his own, and does his best at what he should. That he said his favorite job of those he had done was working as a maid at a maid cafe, which is usually something only girls would do, makes me think there must be more to him than meets the eye. Let's overlook the fact that the script leaves him with some inconsistent characterization (!), as what remains the same is that Hant always is aware of and cares about his surroundings while maintaining a fun, smiling exterior.
1.Sion
Time Green from Timeranger
Sion taking the number one spot should be of no surprise! I can't sum up such a big inspiration in my life simply, but his individuality, firm sense of justice, and the broad depth between his surface and true nature make me love his character. I also of course love his changing hair colors! Congratulations on the number 1 spot!
